Engineers Created a Candy Bar That Can Run the Video Game “Doom”
Overview
Some tech geek created a candy bar that plays the iconic 1993 MS-DOS game Doom, a first-person shooter (FPS) game from 1993, and it’s a new tweak that’s giving gamers a “treat or trick.”
The science and other stuff to know
Running Doom in the most unimaginable of places is the highest trend and tradition of gaming and hardware hacking. Its brilliant combination of open-source code and simplicity has produced a plethora of bizarre results over the years.
We’ve seen Doom running on printers, calculators, and even on ATMs. As impressive as these feats are, perhaps the most unlikely place you’d expect to see this 1993 blockbuster video game running is on a Milky Way candy bar.
Adafruit, a hardware company that specializes in fun and unique DIY electronics, created this ultimate candy bar that literally runs Doom. In the video embedded above, you can see a microcomputer screen installed into the candy, which makes it look like the candy itself is running the legendary game. Adafruit wrote: “PARENTS: please carefully inspect your kids’ Halloween candy! We found Doom running inside this Milky Way bar. Candy of Doom – Do not eat if it’s turing complete!”
